Just as the USA starts to pick up after Katrina (and her waves) Rita decides she wants a piece of that coastline. Living where I do I have never been in a hurricane. I came close in 1999 when I was a still a part-time truck driver heading to N. Carolina as hurricane Floyd, hovered off the coast tying to make up its mind as to where it was going. I never saw the winds but I did see long lines of cars leaving, making me think "What the hell am I doing?" and "Will I have trouble getting out?".
As it turned out, Floyd dawdled off the coast of Wilmington long enough for me to escape. When it did hit it never really went far inland and it was more excessive downpour than anything. I only saw a bit of rain starting up as I left the coast in my mirrors.
I have often pondered over the naming of hurricanes. I know it is done by a random name program but how do they load the names in to the computer for possible selection? I guess we feel the need to name these storms to give them a persona, make them a beast we can call. We make it personal against one weather creature rather than Mother Nature in general.
If they are going to load a bunch of names in, why not let people submit names of nasty exes (male and female) or someone who had really screwed them over and include a story about each. Then we can have a rating for the the names. "we have a castegory 5 coming in....go to the vindictive bitch file and con-artist ass file. Load them in the program!!'
(I have a buddy of mine that had an ex so evil that he has a great name if they ever get a category 6 or 7)
Once the hurricane is named from this list of evil people, we include a bit of background on them. That way we can really loath the storm that is about to take everything from the people in its path because we now have some history. Then when we see someone's life savings and livelihood wiped out we can go, "Yep, that sounds like so and so alright."
Just a thought.
You see, I have never known a nasty Rita or Katrina so it is hard to be angry at them on a personal level, except when I fill up my vehicle. (That is not enough because I know the real thieves are the government that keeps the fuel taxes high even during these times and oil companies that are so quick to raise the price over anything) I want more to be mad at these 2 wind bags!!
In fact, looking at the hurricane names during my life I have only seen one that I could say "Oh yeah, they were always mean and destructive." So lets see if we can't get them to add some sort of A-hole resume to go with these storms, so we can make it personal and really band together when it comes time to helps those in the path of destruction because, this time...its personal!!
Remember, those of you in Calgary and Edmonton, there is a Katrina fundraiser show at both of the Yuk Yuks on Wednesday Sept 28. All door proceeds and donations go to a relief fund.
Come out and support this cause....and bring a story of a malicious Katrina, for me, if you can. I need to be angry at this bitch!

Hey Mack Daddy!
The hurricane thing is random but in alphabetical order. Back in '96 there were 2 back-to-back hurricanes that ripped up the east coast.
My mom called me laughing her ass off because I was just ending a relationship with a guy who happened to share the name of the first hurricane: Zak.
The second, and more destructive one: Angela
What are the odds?!?! hehehe
