Rain snow and fun

Here I am in the city of continuous rain.I am not sure how these Vancouverites put up with the grey skies and constant precipitation. It is like a never ending water torture for a guy raised on the prairies. Give me a -15 day with sun over the drizzle. At least it is warm here. The drive here was a test of skills for sure.
There were 3 of us headed to Vancouver so we figured why not carpool and save the airfare and have some fun. No one thought about checking on the weather.
After doing quick spots at Dickens on Monday we hit the road. We being myself, Marty Mclean and Dan Guiry.
The snow started before we even hit the Calgary city limits at 10:30pm.
At Lake Louise the road was closed all the way to Golden so we trekked south to Radium and up to Golden BC to bypass the avalanche closure. It was Dan's first big road trip so we broke him in good and proper, coaching him on the way. He got us safely to the mid point of the Radium pass where I took over and got us to Golden for a Tim Horton's fuel up. It added a few hours to the trip going that way but we beat all that traffic that was still stranded on the Trans Canada at Louise.
From there we hit snow and fog from hell and I drove thru the night. The highway had just re-opened westbound but really should have been closed. I switched off at 5:30 am and Marty got us to Merrit. The Coquihalla toll road was a nightmare and seems to still be. I have added a link for you to check out the highways in BC. I have not driven them in bad snow for some time and with all the chinooks in Calgary it had me thinking it would be nice and dry. WRONG.

We made it to Vancouver in one piece and in better time than we thought. It was food and naps to bring us back to a human state and get ready for the show at The Urban Well
This is a great room started by Brent Butt many years ago and still going strong. All the comics pop in to do sets there from time to time. A cool setting and a fun place to try new stuff.

The great thing about this city is the number of great comics and the lack of, or reduced, politics of the business. I popped into a couple of rooms and met up with
Carter Hortie. This guy has been around for years and finally I got to work with him. A funny dude for sure.We had some great stories to share about some road gigs we both had done.
Kevin Foxx - caught his set at one of the clubs. Always funny and too hip for words.
Peter Kelamis - did a fundraiser with him last night. Best character voices in the biz and a real treat to work with.
Sean Proudlove - My first time working with him. Did the Urban Well and Univ. of BC. This guy is hilarious and real down to earth.
Toby Hargrave -my good buddy and Mac guru popped in for a few pints. HellOoooOOOOo!!!
Paul Breau. A great friend and amazing writer. Paul also runs an on air comedy show on Univ. of BC radio radio that can be picked up on the net.
John Beuhler. With boyish charm this guy can take an audience on a wild ride without them even knowing it. He did a great rant on my cat rant that had me in stitches! If you make it in Johnny's rants it is a badge of honor! It was awesome to watch.
Plus I met a slew of new comics that have tons of potential and will be acts to keep an eye on in the coming years. There were too many to remember and list but suffice it to say, the talent pool is building on the coast.

I have 2 more nights of shows here at Lafflines, which is a great club tucked away in New Westminster.
Sunday it is Superbowl Sunday so I am stopping out at my buddy Kevin's ranch in Langley to enjoy his wife's cooking (Gail is the best chef I have ever met. Always a treat when she cooks up a meal). I'll spend the day drinking beer, watching the game, shooting pool and maybe a horseback ride before tackling the mountains home on Monday. Okay mother nature...ease off a bit okay? I have 2 business stops on the way and don't want to slip and slide home.
I'll try and get some pics of the snow on the return.

Cheers
Daryl
