Australia Day!!

Hey all, I know I have been not had too many blog entries or photo updates, my apology. Part of the reason is getting logged on with my laptop. Currently the wireless signal in the building, where I am staying, is not working so I can't upload pics etc. I will find another way soon.

Yesterday was Australia day! The birth of this great nation. I spent it in the Sydney Harbour area, where there is a great selection of bars and restaurants. They had a parade of tall ships sail through, including the replica of the HMS Bounty used in the movie. Very cool.
Afterward, there was an awesome display of fireworks and through out the night, a great display of beer!
The enthusiasm of Australia day almost rivals that of the Americans and July 4th. Why is Canada so lame in our celebration? Hmm. Perhaps we are confused as to what language to celebrate in? I mean we have two "offcial" languages but one is just for 17% of the country. Maybe our apathetic celebration is due to the crooks in parliament and how they have diluted what once was a great a proud nation?
Just a thought. I have always found Canada day to be a bit of a yawn. Do we strive too hard with politcal correctness and jam it through with hyphens? Ask people here what their background is and they say "Australian!" even if they are only second generation born here. There is no (insert ethnicity)-Australian here, perhaps we should try that. If you are born in the country you are Canadian. PERIOD, no hyphens. It seems to work well down under.

Anyway, I was down in the harbour, waving my little Australia flag...which got taken away by the bar staff when they were cleaning the table!! Now I have to buy another one. I think it is a conspiracy to increase flag sales!
No worries. I am happy to help the economy of flag makers in 3rd world countries...which is where all developed nations get their flags made...right? I think mine had been made in China.
I want to thank all the Aussies I met on your nation's day. You have a land of some of the most friendly people, keep it up!

Off to the beach.
Cheers
