My week in Edmonton has drawn to a successful close. First off, let me say that the Comedy Idol was a lot of fun and it brought in capacity crowds. I was glad to have seen the great new, young comics show off their stuff. We have a very strong group coming up through the ranks in Alberta, watch out world!!.
The judges were quite entertaining. Chrysi Rubin (Yuk Yuks western club booker) had the most constructive comments I have heard in awhile at this event. I believed it helped all the comics even if they had no chance of winning, at least not this time. For any of the comics in the contest that had wanted to win but did not, remember what you were told, it was some good free advice!
The interaction between Steve Tilley (Edmonton Sun) and Holly Robson (K-Rock) was a show in itself!! I would tell you more but I could not do it justice!

After my little Thursday trip ( and car repair) to Calgary, I arrived back up in Edmonton for the Harland William concert.
Let me say I cannot wait to achieve fame like that. When he walked out the audience went nuts! There was no need to warm them up or win them over. He could have farted and they would have thought it was funny. This is not to say that Harland just rode the fame wave, not him. He took this room and just destroyed! (for those not in the industry...that means he did good, very very good).
I had last seen Harland a few years back and for a guy who spends more time doing movies than stand up, it has not hurt his craft on stage! I was blown away with all the new material and the ease at which he delivered it. Had he been an unknown he would have still torn the roof off the place!
Well done Harland. I enjoyed both shows and it was nice to relax and chat over a few drinks after. One of the truly nice guys in the biz that did not let fame go to his head.
