Well the Liberals and NDP have combined forces (along with the Bloc) to make gay marriage legal in this country.
I am not sure how I feel on this. I really thought marriage had been the definition of a man and woman in holy matrimony. Had been that way for centuries. It was what I knew growing up. A guy and a gal decided to wed, perhaps have children and live as a family.
What is a family today? The mere core of what one was has been eroded to fragmented pieces during my life time. Or is it evolving to mean many things more?
I was happy as a kid, one parent working, the other there to make sure we were fed, got to school, didn't stick things in electric outlets or play with matches. Mom mades sure we did not get so bored that we joined gangs, did crack, beat up on old people for fun, pretend to be homeless for kicks and all the other weird shit kids seem to do today. Oh sure we got into trouble but on a level that seemed less damaging then today's youths. Tossing eggs at a house and getting grounded for it seems a far cry from killing someone in a driveby and not being identified due to the young offenders act. Today it seems very difficult for one parent to stay home as we are taxed to the hilt.
Today's brats seem to know no discipline. I've seen it myself. Little punks challenging me, on the street, in malls, naive in the belief that I would dare not hit them back for they are the 'protected' youth. I hope your faith is stronger than my willpower kid or one day they may get a lesson in physics. 2 masses ( my boot and your ass) cannot occupy the same space.
What has this got to do with gay marriage? It is only time before these 'new' marriages will be allowed to adopt or perhaps have kids of there own through artificial insemination. Insemination of course that will only be for the lesbians. I hope that does not infringe on the rights of 2 males wanting to have kids through childbirth.
"sorry sirs, you have no uterus"
"That's discrimination! We will take this to the highest court in the land"
Would that go to court? Hell this is Canada, the supreme judges (and what ever they smoke) gave criminals the right to vote so anything is possible.
I grew up knowing the traditional marriage and family which is now in shambles in society. Is this new marriage going to change things for the better?
I am not sure any mammal was meant to be raised by two of the same gender. I know of no species in the wild that does this. I am only referring to mammals here as that is the category of which we belong. Lizard, fish and bird arguments need not apply. Are we on our way to messing with nature or is this a new step for humans?
There are many examples where the female does all the rearing but on her own. Yup, nature has a lot of single moms out there. But it is single, not 2 moms, not 2 dads. There is coding in our genetic behavior that is embedded in our DNA. Our upbringing triggers responses of reaction based on 1000s of years of walking upright. Some things we do because it is just there, until a mutation proves a change works better. Will this bring about a new style family unlike any we have ever known? Or will it make no difference and we will still have the same wild little brats; if both of the gay parents are out working? Will they do it better? Who knows?
I am not making blame, I am not saying it will make things worse. I am just asking questions to which no one has the answer.
I have had some knee jerk reactions from so called "liberals" as they never like to have any of their views questioned.
I do find it interesting that an institution, that has such a dismal failure rate in the last half century, would be the holy grail for the gay community to obtain. Over 50% of marriages fail and they want a piece of this Titanic love action to make them happy? That makes as much sense as trying out for the Russian roulette Olympic team in hopes of getting a gold medal.
As the saying goes, be careful of what you wish for, you may just get it!
Me? I would have come up with a new union for 2 people as the one we have seems to not work with the present society.
Your comments are welcome as I think this may make for some interesting thoughts.

after all the bs 4 signing in ...i noticed 'my time' has been eaten up w/ yr hoops for commenting! i would like to share this westerners' perspective on the topic... so i promise to return better prepared time-wise. what the hell do i need a 'blog' for ...anyone>>
first what exactly iz "holy matrimony" Anyone ever see/experience this ideal{& not second-hand story book info>> Perhaps this also iz just an illusion perpetuated on the sheeple, as unreasonable expectations promised in marriage iz a money making business. Interesting 2 that many divorce lawyers retire into politics.... and the sheeple just keep working & pay their wages! We can learn a valuable lesson in political science from this small percentage of angry french /&gays {1-17% was quoted} they ARE a burr up the govt's ass...and they get action! {kinda like the misquitoe story (: however small ...one can successfully make a mass move! Maybe the flabby asses of apethetic canadians require a burr ...2 wake up and and begin to move this govt to do what it was 'hired' to do. Govts enjoy keeping the sheeple bitching and moaning as we're less likely 2 focus on holding them accountable/responsible. mrmakk shares what he beleives this might be wrong w/ the standard canadian family, it's youth & their lack of accountability/responsability. So calling all adult thinking individuals should this govt continue to bleed our money as they pretend to 'represent' any thing more than disguised self-interests...What might you DO for $100,000 a yr pay off>> if you stop over-working long enough you might see how they have you beleiving you are personally entitled to some of the pie = but they decide just how much. they teach{through their action} it cannot be earned ...so it may just be like a gift. We've learned from past experience that veterans in canada that almost died for ones' country does not mean you can live gracefully into old age.The govt views ALL yr money az "their income" why they need to keep you so busy ...keep you working and continue to pay their wages/taxes....to damn busy...2 damn bad eh (:
I see that olikunvrhav has not been blinded by the exesses of big brother's control. Interesting comments.
Yes the liar, er lawyers turned politicians continue to be the tail that wags the dog...and shaking all of our money out in the process.
I had one liberal that actually said they could not continue to talk to me (we had an email relationship) because of my "views" on gay marriage. I had merely tried to create dialog by asking questions. Questions asking what was right and what is really happening here. Questions that no one seemed willing to answer. The 'liberal' said they could no longer keep in touch because I challenged her views. What?
Isn't that bigotry at the base level? "I think different than you so you must be wrong?" Yep, that is a liberal.
i wanted to share this 2: i heard this from an american comic...whose name escapes me but they were outtakes from winnipeg fest, and a fav comedian of mine (john wing) was on w/ this guy, perspective of comedians on canadain politics. His take: " ....americans look on a map to find alaska, and are amazed how truly massive and rich in natural resources canada iz... and why they don't own us yet>> They visit /check canada out and it's then they see our signs in french/metric...which exposes them as the uneducated buffoons they choose to be. Their dislike/intimidation of the french ...well they don't want the french in their world order either (: He suggested that it just might be that the french are keeping canada....canada!"
ooh boy, not sure where i fit mrmakk (: tho i never voted liberal ....i will never be card-carrying PCer again.... Oh well, you label me = you negate me! i'm only here to share my perspective/experience (:
i've been around horses since b4 i could walk and it was clear that i was destined for a life filled w/ ponies (: i've worked, owned, competed, trained, schooled, and even 5 yrz on the racetrack in calgary back in the '90s. i've been surrounded by everything in the horse-world, yet this is what i was 2 learn: most think the stallion iz the 'alpha' of the herd, when actually it iz just like lions and its the mothers/mares that are the primary care-takers. Stallions are protecters & producers, its actually the mare who decides when, where, and even who does what in the clan. In the horse world there iz alwayz a need to adapt/change ...as some die, are replaced, yet the mares raise the foals alone themselves {so there is a degree of shared responsability, as a solo horse would likely loose her foal w/out that saftey of numbers} i only learned this as now i get to see it daily, and its given me the oppurtunity to study 4 myself...my personal classroom.... my personal textbook.... or maybe i need to write one (:
While I never offered advice on who to vote for I just reported who was responsible for pushing the legislation through. It is interesting that some parties are for one thing and against another...until back room deals are made.
Quite frankly, as I say in my act, we should vote the marijuana party in with the green party as the opposition. Think about it. One party that wants to smoke the plants and the other that wants to save them! Nothing would happen good or bad as they bickered endlessly!
:-)
you would have my vote....if i can just remember 2 vote (:
