After my Comedy Now aired I recieved many emails from people I did not know and many from old friends who I had lost touch with.
One email from a viewer was from a guy I only met as a voice on the airwaves. I was stunned to learn this guy remembered me from my old trucking days when I used to run down the road in an 18 wheeler (sometimes headed for a gig or rushing back just in time to make a gig).
Often I would chat with other drivers on the CB to pass the miles (kilometers if you buy into that new fangled met-trick stuff).
Here is his email

>Hey Daryl!
Just saw your CTV special and you rocked! Did you use to drive semi truck? I ran across a comedian about 9 or 10 years ago who drove semi in the off season. I think it was either for Bison or Trans X. Either way he said his stage name was Daryl Makk (I believe he said he took the last name because of Mack trucks). If it was you, I talked to you late one night on the CB when we were heading towards Calgary. Congrats on all of your success, you have come a long way in a short time! Continued good luck!

I was stunned that a guy, who only chatted with me on the radio would remember after all those years. He told me in subsequent emails it was the funny banter and jokes that made it easy to remember.

Trevor is now out of trucking and working for Saskatoon Transit. I did a show there recently (Aug 5) and invited Trevor to the show. I gave him and his wife complimentary tickets. We still had not met face to face! I told the story on stage and that he was in the crowd and we had still never met. The audience started to applaud and I invited Trevor up on stage where we shook hands, hugged (in a manly way of course!!) and did a shot of sambuca. I am so mad at myself for not having my camera for that moment.
We hung out after the show and traded stories. The trip down the highway came back as we relived it.
This pic is on the next day when Trevor came back to the hotel to join me and Mike Craigdallie (the opening act - one funny man and a helluva nice guy) for breakfast. Trevor is on the right while Mike is the one wearing a winter hat in summer???!!
We all joked and chatted like old friends. I know have a new bud to hang out with in S'toon!
Thanks again Trevor for taking the time to write and for all the laughs in Toon town!! See you next time thru good buddy!!
By the way I had driven for both comanies but it was Bison Transport at the time of our CB meeting. I did not take my name due to Mack trucks (although I have driven a few in my day). My name is actually a reduced version from a loooooong Polish one and I am in the process of legally changing it permantly.

hey....wanna help make a girl's dream realized>> i put in a couple cross boarder trips in the late 80's, w/ bluegrass transport {show-jumping horse hauling outfit from edmonton} i was along for the horses, yet i really got a yen to learn how to drive a rig (: my last trip we were shipping from edmonton to pheonix, we had an additional tack-truck w/ 2 other drivers...one who could not drive @ night, the other not in inclement weather...yep we were supposed to layover in saltlake city, but then bernie decided straight thru was even better. Just under 47 hrz, and all i got was 2 hrz of sleep @ canadian border. Seems when i took first leg ....well it turned into night & crappy weather so it was me the entire trip! i think that proved i was born to be a rigpig (:
