Sunday blahs

I sit here watching TV and think, man the line up on the tube sucks. I was going to watch "Trailer Park boys" but it was a repeat as was the Simpsons. So much for my culture fix! I am glad that I am not paying for this cable...it ain't worth it. I have flipped channels and hoped to find a good movie that has not been censored or edited to hell. I should have picked up a DVD tonight. If it was not for that one episode of "Family Guy" that was new, or at least new to me, I think I would have gone stir crazy!

Writing was my plan for the evening but after a big steak dinner I just didn't feel motivated. I am not sure if the cow was mad but it was definitly tasty. Sometimes Sunday is just a day to relax and unwind but I feel edgy. Maybe it is because there have been few shows lately. That always makes a comic restless. I only had one corporate show this week. It paid very well but sometimes I prefer to have several shows in a week, even if they are club shows or on the one-niter runs. While corporate shows pay better there are always fewer of them. Lets face it, comics are addicted to the stage and we need to get on it as much as possible; to feed our addiction, needs, ego and hone our craft.
This coming week will be much better. A full week at the Calgary Yuk Yuks starting Tuedsay. A chance to stretch my legs and let loose. There is nothing like a good string of continuous shows to get the creative juices flowing. It is weeks like this where I feel motivated to write. Not just stand-up but scripts ( I am working on a screenplay with a comic friend) articles for VEX magazine, my book and more. It is weird, the more gigs I have to show up for in a week, the more I get done during the day. How does THAT work?

I am kicking the week off with a sampling of a truly funny man. Brent Butt is in town Monday Sept 26 with his "Corner Gas" tour. It should be a great show as he is joined by Peter Kelamis and Jamie Hutchinson who are great headliners in their own right.
Click here for more on Brent.

I am meeting the gang back stage after the show. It should be a blast to see them and go for a few beers. I am looking forward to hearing some of the stories from behind the scenes of Brent's hit show "Corner Gas". If you haven't seen this show yet, check it out. It is a very funny and well written sit com and it is made right here in Canada!
This country has tried to make sit coms before but most of them, well they stunk. Why is this one different? Maybe because it is made in the prairies and not the (self proclaimed) center of the universere-Toronto. Yep, it took a good old boy from Saskatchewan to show us how to do it. For all comics with aspirations of creating a TV show, without having to leave this country (or move to T.O.) Brent has shown us it is possible. Hmm, time to dust off those show treatments I have had on the back burner.
Later kids

Hey alwaysbewtiched, Saturday had enough beer so I took it easy last night.
The littlest hobo and beachcombers sucked as far as I am concerned. Just my tast. Funny thing though, Beachcombers and that steaming turd called Degrassi High actually aired in Australia. There TV shows sucked so much they bought some of our shitty ones!!
How's that mate?!

I had to apologize to the Aussies and tell them that there is NO school that was like that fake degrassi one. Hell, half the students in that show would have been beaten up by the teachers themselves...just for being annoying.
As for the book, it is a collection of short stories of real life events. That is all I am saying for now.

Well if winkwink would rather watch Degrassi then they are too stupid to be my target audience. Maybe that is why there is so much garbage on TV. Simple stuff for the winky's in the world.

Thanks alwaysbewitched, you are a trooper.

I think wink would rather watch Degrassi then your show. How does this make them too stupid to be your target audience? Given the choice, I would.

Hey Daryl,
Why are you getting so much heat? I think that most people in this business believe that you are "Broke in the Summer" I was at the Toronto club last week and your name came up amongst the comics. Let me brake this down for you...

Most comics don't really like Andrew and after the "Broke" comment still feel the same way but you on the other hand have become a joke. You have always had the reputation of being a hack and stealing jokes but now it's getting bad. There is a lot of shit going on behind your back and I believe that if you didn't really make that comment then you should do something about it. I know that you are not in this business to make friend or be the most popular guy but you shouldn't be crucified for something you didn't do.... unless you really did do it.

well anonymous
the rumor mill is something that I can't control. As for the whole comedy forum thing, I have said my piece on there. Trying to fix some of the minds on that forum is a waste of time and effort. Because you want to pick at this old dead issue makes me think this is winkwink or jokegirl posting under anonomous.
If AG is looking for an apology from me for something I did not do he has a long wait. His name came up last night about how he had treated and back stabbed some good comics in the business. So what? He still works.
You say I am a hack and a thief yet give no specifics. By the way Scott and I did have a similar bit (parallel thought). We talked about it years ago. His was first so mine got dropped. It happens in the biz. Get over it.
Since I don't know who you are I cannot address these issues nor is this blog a forum to do so. The comments are for what I say on the blog. YOu are free to email me on this but...you won't. Any more useless posts by you shall be deleted.
I talk to a lot of comics east and west, so the little band of bitchers that you say you talked to in the club...let them have their little Peyton Place. They mean little to me anyway if that is how they spend their time.
Now go and get a life.
Cheers
