Since mastering chopsticks years ago I have explored Thai, Korean, Chinese, Vietnamese and Japanese. My favorite depends on my mood that day so they all take turns in the #1 spot.
This past week I had Chinese 2 days in a row and my fortune cookies seemed to reinforce the message that my career is going in the right direction.
It has been a great week! I have made some great new booking contacts as well as secured work for a number of gigs and my 2006 is already filling up! To top things off I made my way up to Edmonton this weekend and had a chance to not only perform in Rick Bronson’s new “Comic Strip” in the West Edmonton Mall (which is an awesome stage by the way and one of the nicest clubs I have seen!!), I also had the pleasure of sitting in on a workshop being conducted by Eddie Brill.
Brill is the comic that has done the crowd warm up for David Letterman’s “The Late Show” , for the past 9 years and is also the talent scout for stand-up comics to perform on the Late Show. Sunday was the showcase where us comics had the chance to perform for Eddie and after we got constructive feedback on what was good or not so good on our sets.
That was the coolest thing, to audition and then find out what was right and wrong so you can audition better the next time. It was interesting to learn that stuff that kills in the clubs, may not translate well for a 5 minute spot on network TV or at least not in the same delivery style. The critique was helpful for any future showcases as well as any demo tapes I will submit anywhere. I have been invited to send a new demo once I put the advice to work.
All the comics that were on the showcase are all a step closer to obtaining that coveted spot on Dave’s show or even a similar show.
I look forward to my upcoming "Just for Laughs" showcase next month. Eddie Brill's advice will help me in my material and delivery.
Yes folks, comics have to audition for that festival EVERY year. It is not just an automatic thing just cuz you are good...which I am! Oh yeah, I am humble too! LOL
I feel good about 2006!!
I am off in search of some Korean food. I know of a one near a Boston Pizza. I don't normally eat at BPs as you would not believe some of the clientelle in there!! I hear some of them like to play with poo!
:-)
Cheers

Ah...but Daryl did you cross reference your fortunes with your horoscope? :^)
Reading your posts are infinitely more enjoyable than reading the obituaries.
I see you becoming the next "Martha Stewart" of comedy....
Naw, I don't do the horoscope, but maybe that's me. Skeptical-Capricorn.
Funny you should say the next Martha Stewart. Check out the new character "Marty Stewart" advice for guys in the next VEX Magazine. It is a character I created.
Skeptical goat you say...makes perfect sense. I choose fortunes over horoscopes anyday...but I like to add "the in bed" part after (wink, wink)....more exciting I think.
I'll have to check out the mag....although, it sounds like it's for men....is it online? :)
It is online
www.vexmagazine.com
It is for men...and cool women.
