2006

A new year has begun and I feel ready to take it on. Eager actually.

The most common thing people do at this time is to have a New Year’s resolution or resolutions. Something our society likes to do. We declare our intentions, for the coming 12 months, but how many of us follow through?
This year I have 6 in total but prefer to keep them private. Maybe it is a personal superstition but I really don’t enjoy putting them all out here. If you really need one I will say that I resolve to work out more and have a healthier life style. The same one I do every year. The others are just for me to know, for now.

A lot of events in 2005 changed the focus and direction of my career and my outlook on the industry and in life in general. I have learned a lot about the illusions of certain aspects of the business and how some people play a part or how they think they do.

I’ve met many new and interesting people who have helped me in numerous ways, some without even knowing. I am grateful and I thank them.
I have been to 2 other countries (UK and Australia) in 2005 and had great performances there. I have also seen some of the different ways these countries manage their comedy industry. Canada can learn a lot from these places as well as teach. No system is perfect but the one that does not adapt and change is destined for problems. Thankfully I see the Canadian scene developing, evolving - changing.

I have witnessed new comedy clubs and agencies come to be lately. There is more Canadian comedy programming being developed for TV. Some, the usual low budget crap this country has done too often, to viewer boredom. As well there are a few really nice gems. I have seen some great comedic minds prove to us that it is possible to be successful, make a name for one’s self and earn real money in this crazy business without having to leave this country. Perhaps the Canadian scene is finally growing up. We have produced comedic brilliance in huge numbers for years, leaving them unknown, only to force them to relocate elsewhere. They’ve headed for the USA or UK or just quit, all because the land of the maple leaf gave them little hope. No more it seems.

To all my family, friends and fans, thanks for enriching my life. It is you that give me my spark, ambition and determination to carry on in the wild craziness of show business. What I do is not for everyone. In fact many tell me they would be terrified to do what I do. To stand in front of a crowd and make them laugh, to create humor for strangers. Oddly, I can’t see myself doing anything else.

So hello 2006! I embrace you with open arms!!
