This is a place where there is no "us versus them" mentality of narrow minded, controlling agents, no clubs with restrictive rosters, and the usual crap that has pervailed for far too long on the Canadian scene. Too often politics get in the way of the reason people get involved in comedy. Making people laugh!
Not here. No this is a place that gets down to the very grass roots of comedy. The desire to have fun and make people laugh. It is where comics (or comic wannabes) from all over can show up, share friendship and ply their craft. We don't care who you book your gigs through, we don't care where you have been or what your credits are. If you want to hit the stage and try out new stuff or tweak an existing bit then come on down and sign up. Stage spots are now in such demand that if you show up too late...you only get to watch. It is still fun even watching.
Over the past 9 months this room has gone from being more comics than audience members, to a budding influence on the comedy scene. We have had comics from overseas, the USA and all over Canada stop in and grace the stage.
The creator of Monday Comedy Night is a budding comic by the name of James Moore. A man who loves comedy and is trying to help others get stage time. I, and a few other headline acts, have helped him to mold the room. Help get asses in the seats and give us all a neutral place to practice the work we love- Making people laugh.
Thanks James!
This past week was a great one. People are starting to pour in and watch. The audience severely outnumbered the comics and they all had fun!
They know that what they see is not tried and true comedy gold. It may fly or it may bomb and stink. THAT is what makes it so fun and different. At times comics have re-written bits on stage AFTER they bombed and re-delivered them to applause. How cool is that?
Do you want tried and true comedy with no risk? Then there are many clubs around the world for that. Visit your favorite one and see a professional show as often as you can.
But
If you ALSO want to see the process of how a comic hones his/her act and witness the green material before it matures to gold then come down for some laughs, friendship and comaraderie of comedic minds.
Athletes train, musicians jam, comics open mic!!
The food is decent, the drinks are cheap and the admission is FREE!! Lots of parking and only 2 blocks from the C-train. You have no excuse now!!
See you on Monday!!
