Its been a good week. A few comic buddies were in town, doing tour's so some impromptu barbecues had to happen. Wafik Nasrella (Ottawa) and Bill McIntosh (Toronto) were by for some good ol' Alberta beef...done up Makk style!! I love hanging out with Wafik and Bill as they are 2 of the nicest guys in the biz!! Many of the local comedy contingent popped in for the BBQ and the result was a backyard bonfire party that went to the wee hours. I am not saying comics drink a lot but I think I can pay rent in empties this month!! It was a fun time. No secret handshake needed to get in....ever!
The lads crashed at Hotel Makk for a night as there were no rooms to be had in town. Calgary is hosting the world's largest petroleum convention and the only rooms left are at seedy dives even a homeless person would avoid. My place is always open to travelling comics as I too have had to grab the odd couch and spare room in my travels. It was nice to have them over. We will do the wor wonton soup next time Bill. Sorry we ran out of time to get to King's!! For anyone wanting the best Wor wonton soup EVER you have to check out Kings on Barlow Trail and Center Ave NE.
This past Monday night was Alyson Smith's farewell show at Comedy Monday Night at Dicken's pub. It was more of a roast but it was a blast!! Almost every comic in town was there to tell a tale and say goodbye.
Alyson has been a strong supporter of this room and has faithfully attended almost every week, trying new material and growing as an artist. We will all miss you Alyson. Best of luck to you in Vancouver! We know you'll do great there and everyone looks forward to your return visits.

I am doing just a short blog today as the NHL playoffs are on soon and I am off to cheer for the Edmonton Oilers. Yes...Edmonton.
I have always been a fan of the Oilers( but like to cheer on the Flames as well). I think I could cheer for any Canadian hockey club in the playoffs except Montreal or Toronto. Now before any of you C-H or leafy fans get all bent out of shape just accept it. I have never liked those clubs and I never will. I am glad they are golfing!!
Go Oilers! Lets see the best come-back in the world's greatest sport with 3 straight wins!!
